Emilie Shier: Student Counselor

Emilie is a graduate student that is working on her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis for Children and Adolescents with Mental Disorders at Grand Canyon University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree for Elementary Education with ESL and SPED certifications from the University of North Texas. Before beginning her graduate studies, Emilie worked as a Special Education teacher in Keller ISD and also has experience as a Registered Behavior Therapist (RBT) in multiple ABA centers. In both roles, she collaborated closely with teachers and Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) by advocating for the child’s developmental, behavioral, and emotional needs across multiple environments. Over the past five years, she has dedicated her professional life to working alongside special needs families by equipping them with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive. In addition, she continues to work with teenagers that are walking through substance addiction and recovery in her Care Coordinator position at a local rehab facility.

Emilie is deeply committed to walking alongside families beginning at the time of diagnosis. Through her work, she has seen firsthand how deeply a diagnosis can affect not only a child, but also their parents, guardians, and siblings. She believes in creating space for the entire family to process, heal, and grow together. She has a heart to work with children and adolescents with Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, and other developmental needs. Her therapeutic modalities include Play Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, and CBT. Above all, she is committed to helping families build unity, resilience, and emotional well-being throughout the counseling process. To ensure lasting change and support, Emilie values collaborating with the full family through individual and family sessions.

Outside of work, Emilie loves spending time with her husband, friends, family, and her three pets. She loves cooking, baking, outdoor activities, and being active in her church family.
