Sand-tray Therapy Training

Sand-Tray Therapy: an expressive and projective mode of psychotherapy involving the unfolding and processing of intra and interpersonal issues through the use of specific sand-tray materials as a nonverbal medium of communication, led by the client and facilitated by a trained therapist.
8 hour training that will enable the participant to appropriately utilize sand tray materials and facilitate a therapy session. Participants will gain understanding of how to use theoretical modalities to influence and process themes presented during a session with a client. Training will include both didactic and interactive components, allowing the participant to gain their own insights into the therapeutic benefits of incorporating sand-tray into their own practice. Training will include historical and ethical implications for use as well as integration of sand-tray with special populations.
About the presenter:
Sheila “Dawn” Hensley graduated from Texas State University with her master’s degree in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy. She began her counseling experience working in a nonprofit specializing in high risk children and families. During her time there she found a love for working with children and understanding the multilayer complexities that come with trauma. Dawn has extensive training in the areas of: trauma, grief, couples counseling, and special populations of Autism and Adoption. She is a Certified AutPlay Provider, Certified Sand Tray Therapist and is a Registered Play Therapist. Dawn works with children, adolescents, couples, and families.
